COMMON ENROLLMENT QUESTIONS

1. Which academy is right for my child?

This is a question many parents often have when coming to Natomas Charter School. While each academy serves different grade spans, there can be some overlap between the programs. Before beginning the application, please take a moment to decide which academy is right for your student. On the Academy Overview page you will find a quick overview of each academy, along more detailed information on each academy’s website.

Please Note: If you wish to apply for multiple academies (ex: Leading Edge and PFAA), you must fill out a separate application for each academy.

2. How competitive are Natomas Charter School students when it comes to college admissions?

Natomas Charter School graduates from both of our high school programs (PFAA and ECA) transfer to some of the most selective colleges across the country, earning our school some of the strongest college admissions for any high school in the Sacramento region. This is due to our school's small size, rigorous curriculum, and support for individual students. Our students have an opportunity to stand out in the college application process by having a diverse high school experience with a focus on academics, arts, and personal growth. We also provide each student with the opportunity to take college classes before graduating from high school and our college and career counselors support students through the application process. More information regarding our college admissions success can be found at www.natomascharter.org/collegesuccess

3. Should I apply for kindergarten or transitional kindergarten (TK)?

This decision is largely based on your child's birthdate and whether you feel a two-year kindergarten experience would benefit their child.

Starting in the the 2022-23 school year, all school districts in California, including NCS, are required by state law to expand their Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classrooms until all 4 year olds are eligible for TK by 2025-26.

TK eligibility:

TK eligibility:

Transitional Kindergarten offers a developmentally appropriate, hands-on approach as part of a two-year Kindergarten program. Many of your TK and Kindergarten questions may be answered by visiting the California Department of Education's Transitional Kindergarten FAQ page. Students who are age-eligible for Kindergarten can also apply for TK if the family feels a two-year kindergarten program would benefit their child. We do not accept Kindergarten or TK applications for students who do not meet the age requirements. Applicants may only apply to one grade level based on age eligibility.
