CYBHI (Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative)
Natomas Charter School is participating in CYBHI - California’s Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative. This is a great state program that will allow us to access funds for services our staff provide to our students every day.
To unlock these funds, we need your help! Families will be asked to provide health insurance information and sign consents that allow the district to receive reimbursement. But please know:
- There will be no charges to you
- You will not receive a bill
- Your premiums and coverage will not change
This is simply a way for the state to direct additional resources into our schools and community. The more families who participate, the more funding we can secure to expand services for all students.

Thank you for supporting our school and helping us bring in resources that directly benefit your children and their peers.
CYBHI Parent FAQ
School-Based Student Support Services
- Will this affect my insurance?
No. These services are billed like any other covered health service. They do not change your insurance plan, premiums, or benefits. Schools bill insurance only when eligible services are provided. - Will I receive a bill?
No. Families are not billed. There are no co-pays or out-of-pocket costs for school-based CYBHI services. - What if my child does not have insurance?
Students can still receive services. If your child does not have insurance. - Why is the school asking for insurance information?
State law allows schools to bill insurance for certain eligible student support services. This funding helps sustain and expand mental health and wellness programs at school. - Is this required?
Families are required to respond during registration (provide insurance information or indicate no insurance). Consent is required before the school can provide and bill for eligible services. - Is this confidential?
Yes. Student information is protected under federal and state privacy laws, including HIPAA and FERPA. Only authorized staff can access this information. - Is this therapy?
No. Services may include counseling, screenings, skill-building, prevention programs, or other school-based supports. - Will this replace my child’s existing services or IEP supports?
No. This does not replace special education services or other supports your child already receives. It may help expand available services. - What if I change my mind later?
You may update your information or withdraw consent by contacting your school office. - Who can I contact if I have questions?
