FAFSA- Cash for College Workshops

All students who wish to apply for state or federal financial aid for next year need to file a FAFSA (free application for federal student aid). The application as noted is free and all are encouraged to apply.


CSAC (the California Student Aid Commission) sponsors various "cash for colleges" workshops throughout the region to assist students and families in filling out the form.  To find a workshop near you, please visit their website at Cash for College.

Local Scholarships


  • Horatio Alger Scholarship- have critical financial need (family income less than $55K per year), minimum GPA of 2.0- due October 25th


  •'s- Due November 30th. The $1000 award is meant to aid students in California and across the nation in financing their education.


  • New York Life Award- Due December 1, 2019. Sponsored by the New York Life Foundation, provides six students whose works explore personal grief, loss, and bereavement with $1,000 scholarships. This year, we are excited to offer additional state scholarships of $500 to two students from each of the following states: Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, and New Mexico. All students in grades 7-12 (ages 13 and up) are eligible to participate.


  • Students of African Descent -The Sacramento Links scholarship has opened for this year.  Last year, NCS students won 2 of the scholarships awarded and we should continue the trend!  Please look at the application and see what you would need to apply.  Due January 26th
  • Golden1 Scholarship Students can receive up to $5000 a year for all four years. Due January 31st
  • Alert1 Student for Seniors ScholarshipAlert1 is offering a $500 scholarship to a high school or college student attending an accredited U.S. college or university in 2020. Due January 10th, 2020 11:59 PM PST.



  • Bank of America Student Leader- earn paid internship and/or trip to DC for 11th and 12th- Due February 1st
  • Pacific Gas and Electric Scholarships- various scholarships, Due February
  • Jax College Scholarship- only for students in Sacramento, Maine or Connecticut, underserved students planning on careers in science/medicine, Due February 1st
  • Jackie Robinson Foundation ScholarshipThe Jackie Robinson Foundation provides a multi-faceted experience designed to not only address the financial needs of minority students who aspire to attend college but also to guide them through the process of higher education. Application Opens November 1, 2019. Due February 1, 2020
  • Schwab-Rosenhause Memorial Scholarship- Provides scholarship up to 5,000 per academic year. Must attend college 100 miles of Sacramento, Due February 25th
  • Asian Pacific Fund- multiple scholarships with differing criteria. $2,500-$5,000. Due February 26th  
  • Delta Sigma Theta Sorority- for African-American students, 3.0 gpa. Due February 28th
  • APSEA Foundation- scholarships for students who are low income and planning to major in STEM, part of Asian/Pacific Islander community.  Due February 28th
  • Cien Amigos- scholarship for Mexican Origin/Latino students.  Due February 28th
  • Friends of California State Fair- multiple scholarships in 14 different categories- Due February 


  • Active 20-30 Club of Sacramento- for women who have done community service. Due March 1st 
  • Tri Counties Bank Community Scholarship ProgramThrough a partnership with Shasta Regional Community Foundation, Tri Counties Bank is committed to providing meaningful college scholarships to deserving low and moderate-income students in the Bank’s footprint, as well as to other students in the communities we serve. Application Cycle Closed for 2019. The application cycle for 2020 will open on November 1, 2019 and close on March 11, 2020.
  • Sacramento County's Department of Human Assistant- Applicant must be on public assistance or be low income. Must be currently living in Sacramento, a graduating high school senior in 2020, and will be going into a two-year or four-year accredited college, university, or technical/trade school. Must have minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5. Application must be post marked by Friday, March 13, 2020 The following chart is the income limits for the Scholarship program.
  • Generation Google Scholarship- for students majoring in computer science or related field. Due March 2nd
  • SAFE Credit Union- Applicant must be a college-bound, graduating senior from a high school in one of the following counties: Sacramento, Placer, Yolo, Yuba, Sutter, Alameda, Amador, Butte, Contra Costa, Nevada, San Joaquin, Solano, or El Dorado. High school GPA must be 3.0 or above.- Due Friday, March 20, 2020.
  • SAFE Credit Union- must have financial need and 3.0. GPA. 10 $1000 scholarships awarded. Due March 12th
  • Tri County Banks Scholarship Program- scholarships of up to $1,500 each to students attending
    a 4-year college and up to $1,000 for those attending community college. Due March 13th
  • Sacramento Masters Singer Scholarship- The application video is Due March 23rd
  • Physicians for Social Responsibility- essay of 500 words or less, prizes range from $1000-$3500, Due March 24th
  • 2019 Cathay Bank Scholarship Program- Grants students 20 - $1,000 in scholarship awards for high school seniors planning to attend college as a full-time, degree-seeking student in Fall of 2019. Due March 27th
  • Asian Pacific Community Fund- 2019 Cathay Bank Scholarship Program-Grants students 20 - $1,000 in scholarship awards for high school seniors planning to attend college as a full-time, degree-seeking student in Fall of 2019.  Plan to attend a U.S. Accredited 4-Year College/ University or a Community College in the state of California, Washington, Illinois, Nevada, Maryland, Massachusetts, Texas, New York, and New Jersey as a 1st  year student in the Fall of 2019 (if selected, must submit college acceptance letter for verification). Must have a minimum cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 3.0. Household income at or below the Low Income Level. Due March 27th
  • Asian Pacific Community Fund-2019 Taiwanese American Scholarship Fund-Grants 10 - $5,000 scholarship awards to students of Taiwanese descent planning to attend a university/college in the U.S. in Fall of 2019.  Plan to attend a University or College as a 1st or 2nd year full-time student. GPA 3.0. Due March 27th
  • Italian Catholic Federation- must be Roman Catholic and GPA of 3.2. See specific details about qualified applicants on website.  Due March 15th
  • California Association of Collectors- must write essay on good financial credit.  waiting for new app to come out
  • Sacramento Community Regional Foundation- lots of different scholarships with multiple criteria- Due March 6th
  • Natomas Chamber of Commerce- 3.7 GPA, 50 hrs community service- only hard copies- waiting for new app 
  • Sacramento Region Community Foundation- Annual scholarship awards range from $500 to $7,000 and may be used for tuition, fees, and educational expenses at accredited academic colleges or universities and vocational training programs. Due March 8th
  • Schwab-Rosenhouse Memorial Scholarship- Apply for renewable scholarships worth up to $5,000 per academic year. Due February 7th

  • Department of Human Assistance-Sacramento County’s Department of Human Assistance is pleased to announce the availability of College Scholarships to the graduating class of 2020.  All high school seniors meeting the listed criteria are encouraged to apply.  To be considered for eligibility, applications and all required information must be postmarked by Friday, March 13, 2020
  • Active 20-30 Club of Greater SacramentoSenior female with 3.0 GPA or higher. Community Service/Volunteer experience. Plan to attend a community college or four year university. Must reside or attend school in Sacramento County or the cities of Granite Bay, Lincoln, Rocklin, Roseville, Davis, or West Sacramento. Due March 16th
  • 2019 Royal Business Bank Scholarship- Grants students 25 - $1,000 in scholarship awards for high school seniors planning to attend college as a full-time, degree-seeking student in Fall of 2019.  Have a minimum cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 3.0. Due March 27th
  • 2019 Mega Bank Scholarship ProgramGrants students 10 - $1,000 in scholarship awards for high school seniors planning to attend college as a full-time, degree-seeking student in Fall of 2019. Due March 27th
  • Davis Musical Theater Company 2019 Theater Arts AwardFor graduating high school seniors. Two $500 rewards will be granted to two qualifying applicants. Must be emailed or postmarked by March 31st


  • Natomas Schools Foundation Scholarship- The Natomas Schools Foundation will accept applications through April 12, 2020 for scholarships to help defray expenses at an accredited four-year college, two-year college, or trade school.Multiple winners will be chosen for awards of $1,000 and $500. Applications are available here. Applicants must be high school seniors, have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher and have served 50 hours or more during the past two years in one or more of these three categories:
  • Caltrans District 3 Transportation Scholarship-We offer a $1,000 scholarship for a deserving student within the 11 counties of Caltrans District 3 who is interested in a career in the transportation field. Due April 24th,
  • NAEHCY ScholarshipWe are pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 2019 NAEHCY Scholarship. See below for the full list of dates, and check our website for full details and the link for the online application. Application Deadline: April 30th


  • Kaiser Permanente Asian Association Scholarship- must have community service, other requirements- Due May 1st
  • Kosmos Civic Club, Inc.-The Kosmos Civic Club, Inc. is an organization of African American women in the Sacramento community committed to help graduating high school seniors in Sacramento County to further their education, by offering college scholarships. Scholarships will be awarded in the fall of 2020. Applications must be complete (with attachments) and received or postmarked no later than, May 9, 2020, to receive consideration.
  • Kosmos Civic Club Scholarship- For Graduating High School Seniors Attending High School in Sacramento County Only. A minimum 500 word essay. Received or Postmarked on or before deadline date of May 10th, 2020
  • Martin Luther King Scholarshipmust be going to 4 year university- 
  • Follansbee-Hansen Scholarship$1,000 or more to qualified students from Sacramento Area. Due May 31st
  • Against the Grain Scholarship-ATG proudly awards scholarships to a select group of amazing Asian American high school seniors, college undergraduate and graduate school students through our scholarships. A panel of judges selects scholarship finalists and winners based on the combined strength of their GPA, community involvement and leadership, personal essay, portfolio and/or video submission and personal interview, representing the spirit of Against The Grain Productions. Due May 31st


  • NAEF Scholarship- Applicant must be graduating from a Natomas Charter School or another high school in Sacramento County.
